What Octane gas do you use

Since I just traded in my 2004 jetta TDI and since it was diesel I didn't have to worry about octane etc. I bought an 01 boxster and granted I dont have the car yet so I haven't been able to read the manual but was wondering about what gas I should use, I was thinking 91 octane should be fine but what have you found does the car prefer 93?

Brucelee 08-06-2005 06:35 PM

91 is just fine.

deliriousga 08-06-2005 08:12 PM

93. The next one down here is 89. Tried it once and won't do that again.

93 here. On occasion I will do 94 from Sunoco. Tried 91 once when I was in Canada and I will never do that again.

I noticed that most of the local gas stations have the sticker that says 91 octane for premium unleaded. Does anyone in S.J. know where I can find a higher octane gas? My S has no problem using the 91 but would like to find out if there is a difference with the 93.

91 up in Canada as thats all we got, other then sunoco ultra 94 but I am not a big fan of ethanol enhanced gas.

93 Long Island NY

93 in Tampa FL. Rare to see 91. It usually drops to 89.

Thanks for the input everyone I noticed a lot of past threads on this but no real answers. I will definitely be using Chevron gas and I think I'll start with 91 octane and if I see problems go the the uber premium but I don't think it will be an issue.

91 , Chevron w/Techron

Still looking for 93 octane, in Southern Cali.

Some of the local tracks have pumps with 98 or even up to 114. I haven;t tried it yet but I hate running the Cafornia 91 gas. I am pretty sure that is as high as you can get in CA.

It doesn't help to run higher octane than needed and actually will not burn as well but I have read that 93 is about optimal for the boxster.

KRZTACO 08-09-2005 01:13 PM

91 in Orange, CA is about $2.89 / gallon

nautiquelfe 08-09-2005 02:48 PM

93 here in auburn, al, $2.49per gallon, usually get around 270-290miles per tank. Is this average for boxsters? Has anyone tried the Shell 93gas? They are really pushing and marketing around here w/ billboards and comercials.

bigislandboxster 08-09-2005 06:32 PM

I checked a while back, and I was getting about 360-380 miles on a tank, maybe a tad more......Mostly highway on my '98......Check again maybe, that seems a little low, unless you're doing mostly stop and go or a lot of hard accellerating :D

RandallNeighbour 08-09-2005 07:35 PM

might just be me not wanting to run empty, but my warning light comes on when I've hit about 265 highway miles. Got 24 mpg on my recent trip. How you all get well over 300 miles on a tank puzzles me. Do you run it clear to the Empty mark or what?

BTW, saw $3.35 a gallon for 91 at Chevron in Oceanside, just north of San Diego. Passed that station right by and went up the road and found a station selling 91 for 2.85. I whined a little about it while at a Yosemite hotel's lobby and a Brit told me, "You Yanks need to be very quiet right now or I'm going to think you are spoiled rotten. I paid $9 a gallon in London for premium just last week while I was in the city on business."

I guess we have nothing to complain about whilst looking at the global pricing for fuel, even if it's all tax-loaded.
