p0302 code question

1997 986 w/ 46k miles manual

Well as I was entering the freeway today after some spirited driving in the hills, I had to pass a vehicle to enter the freeway. As I was speeding up (no redline, but close)) my check engine light came on! I pulled over right away to check to see any signs of obvious damage. Did not notice anything.
Checked oil -OK
Started the car again and starts up right away.
No sign of power lose.
No strange noises.

Question is it okay to drive to work tomorrow 5 miles away and fix it when I get home?
Can I turn off the CHECK ENGINE light and drive to see if it comes back again?

I've read that I might need new spark plugs or a coil pack.

It was a very scary and stomach turning feeling after reading all about what COULD happen when the engine light comes on.

Thanks in advance for all your help

I got the same category error but, on cylinder 6. Took the coil and swapped it with cyl 5. Drove for about 100 miles and haven't seen it. Got my DMV inspection done as well. No issues even though Durametric was reporting 'Secondary air system fail status'. Either the DME is screwed or this Boxster is crazy!

I'm done losing sleep over these things. Just driving until it stops dead!

Its most likely just a regular cyl #2 misfire. When there is a misfire that damages the cat conv, it means it was bad enough that the DME shut the injector on that cyl down to save the cat.

I would just throw some new spark plugs in, and change the coil on cyl #2. That should take car of it for good

Thanks for the help guys.
I erased the code with the obd2 reader and the code has not came back since.
I'll change all spark plugs since its pretty much due anyways.
I might change the coil as well. We'll see what happens
