Squeak behind seats?

On my Porsche Boxster S 986 There is a persistent squeak behind my head. Could it be the retractable hood mechanism or something to do with the engine mounts?

I had a squeak that turned out to be the passenger seat back rubbing on the roll bar. Moved the back rest foward eliminated it.

Thanks, but...

Thanks for the idea, but I tried this first and the squeak continues.

Do you have the wind deflectors? They usually rattle in the rollbar hoops, but I guess they could squeak as well.

Or could the squeak actually be more of a squeal? From one of the pulleys on the drive belts?

chavendar 01-15-2012 12:47 PM

the squeak continues

Nah, thanks, but the squeak is not linked to the wind deflector and it isn't a drive band etc.

I too have a squeak and its from the passenger side I think and its like rubber on rubber so it is a "squeak". I was wondering about lubricating or cleaning all the rubber seals etc in the top/window area and see if that helps.

I thought everybody had squeaks with the top up. I haven't tried too hard to find it, maybe I should and lubricate it. Mine is definitely some joint or two parts of the roof structure rubbing on each other.

I have 2, seatback rubbing and sun visor (sounds like ...in the back ?)

bar10dah 01-15-2012 07:41 PM

My sun visor rattles sometimes, but no squeaks from my top.

I didn't have these squeaks until i removed the engine bay cover and put it back. I am riding right now with out the carpets and i am presuming that its the engine cover that is squeaking. So i will let you know when i take a look at it, mean while check it out.

ok so i took a look at my engine cover and yes its squeaking. So i can say that if the squeaks are not coming from the seat then its the engine cover that is not properly seated or something along those lines.

Anything like this in the states? Would love to give it a try.

so I removed the engine cover and put it back made sure it was seated properly and the squeak was gone. I sugest trying this if anyone has a squeak that isn't the chair, and is coming from behind the chair.
