problem with turning key to start

This may have been addressed but have not seen it. When i stop and put in park, sometimes it only shows on dash as going into reverse. When I attempt to start next time it is very difficult to fix. I have to jiggle key and steering wheel and gear shift at same time to free up shifter, then push up into P. Then it will start.

Is there a fix for this other then my bad memory to check for P before shutting off?

I had similar issues and a squirt of some sort of spray lube on the TIP shifter linkages caused it to go away for 2+ years. So easy and fast the dealer didn't even charge me.

Might try looking up...Shifter Cable Adjustment.
