Radio Code
 

Where can I find my radio code? When I bought the car it didn't have a owners manual. I was thinking about asking the dealer but was told they charge for it so I wanted to see if anybody would know an alternative

The only other place I can think of to look would be on your white options sticker on the front truck lid.....Sometimes previous owners will write it on there in case they forget it....Its a 4 digit code, and it will not be one of the preprinted option numbers ....

It will take the dealer about 3 minutes to obtain the code for you. If they charge you, make sure you never use them again and that you tell them why.

You can try Loren at renntech.org. He has a program that works most of time to calculate the radio code from the serial number

Also REDLINE_WINS at renntech.org can get also. I think he's a Porsche tech(former?)

The dealers have access to a data base that works off of the serial number of the unit. If you hold the TP button down on your unit for say 10 seconds, it will give you the Serial number. Give that to the dealer and they will call to get your code.

I don't believe it is a program but a data base that is phone accessed by Porsche dealers only. :cheers:

Hey i got my code from Loren at renntech.org. I have'nt have a chance to try it out yet though. I thought i was going to have to disconnect my battery to clear a COL. Lucky for me it went off. I'm sure it'll resurface. We exchanged emails several times through this process and it seems he uses a program that matches the code w/ the serial number from your becker unit. I recall there being a 95% accuracy on it. I say try it out. If it works, you will not have to haggle w/ dealer. If it doesnt work you would have had to go to dealer anyway. At worst you may drive w/out stereo for a day or so. If you use Loren let us know if the program worked for you.

Not that this will help, but in my experience, the radio code appears to be some jumble of the last couple digits in your VIN. Any body else notice this?

None of my radio code's numbers correspond with the last 4 digits of my car's VIN. Must be a coincidence for you.

The program Loren has he got from me and I got it from a guy in the UK. The code is based on the last 4 digits of the radio serial number. It is nothing to do with the VIN. For some reason that we have not been able to figure out, the program does not give the correct code all the time.

You know, of all the things, it NEVER occured me to that people may want to steal the Becker radios ;) In fact, I've never heard of boxster radios being stolen. Usually, just when you buy one off of one of those auction sites, it never comes with a radio code.

I got a TP now (not Tool Pants) and only keeping it for the stock look and GPS (which is surprising nice without a display)

Anyway, just a thought.
