Gauge cluster compatibility?

I have a 2000 Boxster base 2.7 5spd US and wanted to swap out my cluster with the metallic white S model cluster. When searching online OEM parts suppliers, several listed a few of the S model clusters as replacements for 1997-2004 / any 986 model. I asked my dealer about programming the swap and the OBC hack and was told any non-CAN-BUS model should work. So I purchased a dashboard from an S model wreck. I don't have the info on the car, but it's cluster is stamped middle of the year 2001 or 02 as manufacture date. It is the same part number some aftermarkets are selling as compatible with my ride.

Long story short, my original black cluster is the 26 or 28 pin blue/gray/black plugs. The S model cluster is the 30 some-odd pin gray/blue/green. My question is whether there is a harness swap or re-pinout that needs to be done or if there's no-way-Jose its going to work, or if it will work as-is with reprogramming.

Original blk cluster is PN 986-641-103-05 70C
White S cluster is PN 986-641-213-02-FHB

Anyone have any more specific info on compatibility? If this S mod won't work, can anyone provide S model part numbers that would work?
