It's next to impossible to talk in the car with the top down, windows up no matter what kind of handsfree you use.

I use this:

Newegg.com - Motorola Bluetooth In-Car Speakerphone Handsfree Car Kit with Built In Digital FM Transmitter / Audio Caller ID / 18 hours talk time (T505)

Sound is decent, you can have it play the other caller over your FM, and it turns on fast enough I leave it off until I hear my phone ring. It's not perfect but its decent enough for the price.

You will need a conversion adaptor for Sony connection and make sure alarm wire that was connected to old unit is grounded.

Not sure which model of Sony you have but can go on most audio sites and put your model car and radio in and it should show which adapter you need.

You sound a bit out of your element but you probably need a wiring harness:

It's a Sony MEX-BT2900 that I've bought, I've fitted them before, have spliced wires to get them to work but I really want to avoid that on this car

McQuaid 10-25-2011 11:01 AM

That little block, where does that connect? Looks like what I need???

ABQautoxer 10-25-2011 11:06 AM

That white connector should plug into the factory harness on the car. then you solder those leads onto the leads on your Sony stereo harness. Its a different harness if you have Nav from the factory...and it might be different if you didn't have door speakers. Use their configurator to help you out.

When you say grounded, where do you mean to? just earthed anywhere?

McQuaid 10-26-2011 12:26 AM

I've found this, and it states that i do not need any installation kit? is that an adapter its referring to? this is exact sony player i have with my exact car's details in

In the future I'd probably want to get a 2DIN head unit with nav and BT, but in the meantime I'm using my BT headset when driving. Doesn't work too great, as my headset tends to pick up the engine noise over my own voice and the only time I can be heard fine is at a stop, and that's top up. Top down I can't be heard above 40mph even with all the turbulence minimizing in effect (deflectors between and inside roll hoops, windows up, visors up).

ABQautoxter's solutions seems interesting, especially if it works.

McQuaid 10-26-2011 10:25 AM

I got the problem sorted with an additional wiring harness, but my BT won't work with calls, plays music from my iPhone over BT but no sound when calling?? Any ideas on this matter?

Not compatible with your model phone?

X2 I have one of these as well and it works very well. It is in my Range Rover and not my Boxster though but that is the nice thing I can take it with me in any car.
