short shifter
 

i have recently installed the short throw shifter on my 986 and it feels fantastic, it gives a really sporty feel to the car.
the thing is when i installed the shifter i didnt bother changing the linkage, and now my friends are telling me that i should have done, and that its only a matter of time til i will need to replace it.
i really dont feel like going throught the hassle again to change this lnkage!
the shifting still feels really smooth til now.
any idea what might happen to these factory linkages by time, is it really that bad that i should just change it?

I've run mine for over a year really hard without any problems. I have heard that some racers broke the plastic linkage. Unless you are racing I wouldn't bother. It can still happen but change it when it does. Just make sure your AAA is current

Tell your friends you'll change the linkage when it breaks. I've got 148,XXX miles on mine and the linkage is original.

and is it true that it might start to feel "sloppy" by time, that gears wont go in as smoothly?

That is indeed true.
On another note, if you've got the 6-speed, G-Box makes an upgrade to the trans detent. If you haven't got the dreaded 2nd gear pop out, this will prevent that from emerging.

my gearbox is a 5 speed.
i havnt got any issues with changing gears yet, the only thing is that when the engine is still cold, engaging 1st gear requires some more strength, than other gears.
its always been like that,but with the short shifter its even more noticeable.
when the engine gets to normal operating temperature, its not an issue then.
