Convertible Top Problem '97-2000

Hi!
I am new to the forum and found it while looking for others that have had the problem with the top not being able to retract because the "cover" tweaked with one side up and one down....well I am looking for any or all of you to get in touch with me. It seems this was a problem that could have been avoided if we were warned. I am a weekend driver with low mileage and low use on the top...this just occured on my '98. Needless to say, I am bent, and it looks like between $ 1700-4000 price tag on the repair. It seems this isn't actually a repair but a replacement of all the components that were improved on in 2000.

I'm looking for some support with the hopes of some restitution from Porsche on what should have been a recall, or perhaps a simple post card warning and courtesy exchange of parts so this could have been avoided.

Any insight on this would be appreciated

well, mine didnt do that, but in my 99, the top just works when it feels like it. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. its pathetic really, the amount of people CONSTANTLY complaining about their convertible tops in boxsters, i hope porsche remedied the problem in the newer models.

i had the exact same problem...still do. I don't have the money to fix it at the moment, so I might as well own a coupe. This sucks.

Cool

Hey Fellas!!! seek out the other postings around this forum...the soft top issue has been addressed a few times....If what you are talking about is the metal lid that covers the top once is retracted...then you are looking at the top transmissions being unsynchronized, this happens when the guide cables that go from the transmissions to the top motor either snaps from the housing or just get loose....if the lid is not too twisted, all you need is to replace the cable on the side the lid is less retracted.....(e-bay has a lid listed just in case you need one)....the cable does not have to be new, parts recylers like Oklahoma Foreign can provide you with the cables, top transmissions and such...these parts are purely mechanical and used parts are ok to use....if you need help on the actual replacement let me know....
