Ok to use Permatex gasket maker on oil sump plate.

This weekend I plan to pull the oil sump plate to see what's inside there, hopefully not pieces of my IMS bearing. Porsche says to use some exotic gasket maker when putting it back together. Will Permatex red, high temp RTV gasket maker work?

LN Engineering uses Loctite 518 instead of OEM for their sump stuff (good luck frinding driebond - threebond - anywhere).

Bump. True. Don't just go for something that haven't been tried or proved that have actually worked. Better ask the pro or experienced consumers.

Permatex red works fine, but its imperative to use just the slightest amount of sealant. Less is more. You have to lay a tiny bead, 1mm at the widest, all around the plate.

If you goober it, the sealant will squeeze out into the sump and can clog the oil intake tube.

Its a good idea to have a look. My sump was amazingly clean and free of any debris whatsoever. And as San Rensho said, use the least amount of sealant that will get the job done.

Porsche service manual specifies 1.5mm

And make sure both surfaces are ABSOLUTELY clean!
