Visor attachment issue

I'm having a slight visor attachment issue with my 986, I bought a new visor for one I damaged attempting to remove that god awful airbag warning. When I removed the two large Allen screws the retaining nuts that are inside the windshield frame broke. Now they will not screw in. Is there an easy way to fix this? (or even a hard way) Any brilliant suggestions? it's not an issue as long as I don't drive with the top down but what fun is that?

Thanks,
Bonez

I had the same issue w/ my Boxster as have many others. Easy fix? You could possibly fill the holes w/ JBWeld then re-tap. I didn't try this b/c I wanted a more complete solution.

So... here's the write up I did by replacing the cheap worthless factory retainers w/ steel nutserts. Didn't take too long but best of all, it was done the right and the way it should have been from factory...

Good luck :)

I need too do this also.

You mentioned getting 3 nuts and the 100mm M6 bolt

I can see where 2 of the nuts are used on the HF gun but do not see where the third nut is used? anyone got a pic?

.
3 nuts? you should see your Dr. ASAP :D j/k

The third nut is not 100% necessary, but as mentioned in the write up, I put it on the other end of the 100mm bolt - over 1" up from bottom. Did so thinking it would be needed to keep the bolt centered in tool. But as I recall, it's not necessary especially using the 1/4" nutsert nosepiece. That being said, if you can find a 120mm or longer threaded bolt, grab that instead. It'll make it easier for you to hold steady while installing and give you more thread to grab onto for unscrewing bolt after pulling the trigger

Thanks so much for the information. I will post how my repairs go.

Any reason to not do this using SAE inserts ?

I'm glad those visor labels came off easily using acetone.

No real reason you cannot.

I stuck w/ metric to keep stock T-30 screws... that was back in 2007 when my repair was needed though. Car has long since been out of my possession.

Good luck :)
