Catch can updates
I read awhile back a thread about a catch can to replace the AOS. I was just wondering if anyone knows for certain if this is a good Idea. I know jake said he was working on this and had it going in one of his test cars.
I am looking to replace the AOS soon and figured if I can eliminate it that would work too. Also what are the pluses and minuses to using a catch-can instead of an AOS. Or is it a Win-win since you eliminate possible mode of failure and replace AOS in one fell swoop. |
The problem is the fact that its not legal for street use...

Is it illegal everywhere? or only in places with emissions testing.

If the only problem is legality, I am interested in the process. Police here in Australia think they are smart by saying the engine is in the rear trunk of the boxster instead of the front one....

no issues w/ catch can other than legality. the basic concept is to remove the AOS tube from the throttle and route it to a catch can. the inlet at the throttle is then blocked off. i have seen a lot of boxster / cayman race cars like this.

Ok, thanks. Doesn't throw any CEL lights or anything?

catch can
I've done a catch can with a drier from an A/C where the out of the AOS goes into the long side (all the way to the bottom) and then the shallow side goes to the back of the TB. all the oil gets trapped inside the can by 3 layers of steel mesh and the clean air goes back into the TB. this way you still have an enclosed system (not venting to the atmosphere)but you are cleaning what goes into the back of the TB.
I have used it at the track and where my car used to smoke it doesn't anymore all have to do is drain it at the end of the day |
