Engine not starting on first try
 

I have the weirdest problem with my car. I attempt to start it and it will turn over but won't start. After stopping it makes a loud short squeal. Then after it will start and then sputter off. Then the next try it starts right up. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks

The squeal sound may be the starter dying. A little more car info helps: year mileage etc.

Oh I am sorry. It is a 97 with about 64k miles on it. The squeal is weird because it only does it when I stop trying to start it.
