Buggered the oil drain plug
 

I managed to strip the hex of the butter-soft engine oil drain plug. At least I got it out.

I'm thinking of getting the LN Eng magnetic plug, which might take a week or two to navigate its way up here to the great white north.

Probably a silly question, but is there any reason why it would be an issue to leave the engine with no oil in it for that long? (No, I won't be driving it.)

I had also dumped the filter canister and just put it back on hand tight.

Can't imagine any problem...

Unhook the battery to make sure no one tries to start it.

the LN drain plug is a nice unit..plus it uses a 10mm hex instead of the standard's 8mm.

+1 on the LN plug...replaced my original and not looking back. Also have the billet filter adapter, so I don't need to deal with the cheap paper insert/plastic canister Porsche put on.

I'm gonna order the LN plug. The stock ones are crap. Let's see, $10 for a stock one from the local stealer or $20 for Charles' unit. Hmmm

just put a piece of masking tape over the key slot on the dash.

Somewhere along the way I acquired a spare drain plug and just use the spare rather than fussing to clean the one that came out. My only challenge is to remember to retrieve the old one for the next time.

For the totally adventuresome, there is a third option: Porsche actually makes a stainless steel replacement drain plug under the part number 900.219.015.00, which sells for about $14. It is not a magnetic type like the LN unit, but it is hard enough to wear out your tools rather than the other way around……….
