Question for Jake or Knowledgeable

I was digging around on some of the performance sites for porsche such as IA, TPC, Pedros, etc. and I came across a product from IPD (Innovative Pro Design) that Sharkwerks carries for both the Box/Cay and 996/997.

A simple intake plenum.

Both applications claim between a 10-15hp gain because of the "Y" design as opposed to the "T" stock design smooths the airflow and allows more air to reach the engine.

Thoughts on this one? Part of me is skeptical and at $900+ for a cast aluminum piece....

Thought the same thing. They said it works on the 09+ base cars too.

i'll stick with pedro's technotorque for $700 less.

Agreed, but money aside I am curious as to the resulting effect of the application. Is it valid? Or is it another one of those mystery/novelty items where the claims make sense to a rational person yet it has no effect on a technical level and no one tests the claim for whichever reason.

I'd be curious to see Jake or someone take a car, dyno it... slip on the piece and dyno again.

Cheers,

Adam

I already have.

Chaud, very nice write up. :) I just wish you did a before and after dyno too. I was specifically looking to get the IPD or Pedros but I just recently bought a 996 after my boxster was totaled so it already has the 75mm throttle body.

Im curious as if the change in performance was because of the increase in the throttle body and not the Y piping as opposed to the T or the placebo effect possibly?

Oh the joys of putting together a list of future mods/upgrades.

Wonderful! And the conclusion of the "Y" versus the stock "T" would be.... ? If you wouldn't mind :D
