TO ALL 986 OWNERS- What do you think?

Fellow enthusiasts, I am curious to know why more 986 owners have not turned to turbo charging their cars. I know there is a lot of interest in modifying and getting more horse power. The number one complaint of the 986 and some of the 987 has been that it’s underpowered. Is it that you are afraid of the consequences or is it the high price associated with the kits that are available today? I would be interested to know would you consider Turbo charging your car, if the price would be in $ 6500 range and getting results such as 350 hp at the wheel , running a save 5 psi boost? Please let me know, I appreciate your time.
Regards
Harry R Chamness

a po isnt ,wont be a street/drag racer...why put lip stick on a pig? the 6500 turbo is bargain basement kit....wait till they show you the extras...does that include rims, tires, clutch, posi etc ....if you do that to a new s you have a car over 100000 and no warranty that a z06 will still put you to shame

Simple...the engines are already known to implode even WITHOUT forced induction.

Ditto...the connecting rods and cranks are very weak in these engines, let alone the other "el cheapo" components. Forced induction would blow it up in no time at all.

TPC makes a low PSI kit for the 986 you can check them out Im sure they can explain the process to you. It isnt very cheap and the gains are not in my opinion worth the price or risk.

Wrong platform for forced induction IMNSHO

*11 to 1 compression ratio + FI +91 octane gas = kaboom!
*Lightweight internals
*Sintered crankshaft
*No room for plumbing or intercooler
* $10K installed price
* Not street legal in Calif.

Sorry to burst your bubble. If you want reliable HP with plenty of torque drop in a 3.6L 996 motor. Far far better long term solution for those in the need for speed. Personally, I like my little 2.5L just fine.

-Because engines fail normally aspirated.
-Because the rod bolts are weak and so are the connecting rods
-Because the CR of the engine is high enough that not much boost can be ran.

Because I can make more power from a big bore engine normally aspirated that has no longevity issues due to overkill components being used.

I have boosted these engines, after they were fully updated to specifically perform with forced induction, to include all critical components.. At that point its a 30K+ dollar endeavor.
