window doesn't retract when door opened

The window should retract slightly to clear the window frame. I have replaced the microswitch that connects to the door handle. The problem occurs on entry from outside the car and also when I am in the car and pull on the inside door handle.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Search the site. LOTS of threads about this.

Your regulator is most like toast. The cables stretch. A common problem. It's about $200 for a new unit from Sunset Imports in OR. Installation is a pretty easy DIY. When you search you'll find links for very good step-by-step installation instructions.

I'm dealing with this issue as well. This thread helped me out alot.

I have ordered the parts from Pelican Parts and will be installing them sometime next week with the assistance of a mechanic friend.

Passenger window doesn't retract

I've tried searching and can only find one thread from 2010 and the site the link refers to has not allowed me access and I've been trying for four days.

The passenger window will not retract enough to clear the top when either the inside or outside handle is pulled to open the door though it does retract a very little amount. The window does retract when I put the top down or up and it does work using the button in the normal fashion.

Anyone with experience with this?

I had the same problem on both windows. I found a hack that corrected both, and it was free.

roll window up and continue to hold the up button for about 5 seconds beyond the window being fully closed. This does something to reprogram the motor. This procedure corrected both of my windows. I did this about 18 months ago and windows still work perfectly. Give it a try and let me know how it worked for you.

Thanks for your reply but it didn't work. When either inside or outside handle is pulled the the motor makes the same sound as if it is working properly and the window moves a very slight amount but not enough to clear the channel in the top. Darn!

I had a similar problem.
The issue is the window regulators. There is a piece that wears/breaks and creates enough slack so that the window will not roll down far enough to clear the top.

To verify you can push the window down with your hands to the correct height (till you feel tension from the regulators).

Replacing the regulators is the permanent solution but there is a hack you can do that uses wire ties. I don't have a link but you should be able to find it if you do a search.

I tried it but it didn't work for me.

You can get new regulators from rockauto from around $120.00 each.

Have a look here.

May be of some help.

Thank you for posting the older thread. I searched a number of times but nada. On the way to the bicycle shop now. This forum is a huge resource especially for one who is an enthusiast but isn't mechanically gifted.

Get a new one if you can. If you do a hack that will eventually fail. On a rainy day. When the window is down. And it only goes up part way.And the wife get`s pissed.

Fixed for now, thanks!

So yesterday I want to a friend with a '03 Boxster who has many more mechanical genes (and tools) than I. He used the bicycle cable adjuster hack. Got it fixed in just under two hours (at least for now).

I want to thank all who posted their ideas, experiences, and wit. You were all a great help!

I would go with this as the part that wears is usually the plastic version
