MAF codes

Hi, just joined today. I need a new air flow meter for my 2000 2.7 Boxster. I'd have a go at changing it myself, but I've heard that it needs a special computer code in order to do so. I've been quoted £300 for the job. Does it need a code, or do I have to get it fixed at a Porsche specialist?

you can change the MAF yourself in about 15 minutes w/ just a t-20 torx securitydriver. It's like a regular torx driver but has a hole in the middle:

Depending on MY, the only code you might need is for the radio h/u (b/c you'll want to disconnect the (-) term on the battery to reset the check engine light if on). Otherwise, if you have no CEL, then just order the MAF yourself and pick up some security torx bits. Incidentally, you may try and just clean the MAF first to see if that works as the part itself can be quite pricey...

Thanks for the info Burg - I'll try cleaning it first. Regards.
