DME reprogramming

Before I get my hopes up about swapping my motor for a 3.4 one day, I want to figure out if my very early 97 boxster's DME can be reprogrammed or not.

I read where some of the earliest Boxsters sold do not have DME's that can be reprogrammed, making a Porsche 3.4 motor swap difficult and far more expensive.

Does anyone know how to check this against a database of DME serial numbers or part numbers?

Hey mate,

I have a 97 also, had my dme reprogrammed yesterday by powerchip here in melbourne australia.

They were saying that they were only one of few companies who have the equipment to do this.

Randall, I assume you're talking about this article on the Pelican Tech site:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/11-ENGINE-911_Engine_Swap/11-ENGINE-911_Engine_Swap.htm

I would ask Wayne Dempsey at Pelican if he has any more info to determine if you're one of the "very early 1997 cars".

By pure BS luck it turns out my '01 has the most flexible DME if I want to go this route down the road.
