Change brake contact
Hello,
I'm looking for a DIY for change a brake contact. Can't find anything on google or on this site. Any help? Best regards Kim Mikkelsen |
Could you describe what it is you want to do in a bit more detail please? I have no idea what it is you are asking. Thanks!

I need to change the brake contact.
And I dont have ANY idea where it is on the car. Only that it has something to do with the brake pedal. I've seen some DIY on some audi's and vw's. My mechanic said that it's a 15mins job, and I dont need any special tools. I just don't want to pay him 80$ for 15mins job. Kim |
What are the symptoms that have led you to believe that you need to do this?
I'm still not sure what a "brake contact" is - perhaps I know it by a different name. I've looked through my Bentley manual and can find no reference to it at all. What function does it perform? |
I believe you are speaking of the brake sensor on the pads. Pelican Parts has a DYI Tech area with how to and pictures. Also, Mike Foggle Boxster site and Pedro's Garage has a DYI section. Good luck.

Nope, I just have changed pads and rotors.
The fault was there before. My mechanich says it needs to be changed. PSM and ABS lights comes on. Kim |
OK. Did he also suggest changing the muffler bearings, by any chance?

The part that activates the brake light, and will shut off the Cruise Control if you have it on, and touch the brake pedal? I can only really think of Contact being another word for Switch in some languages. BC. |

See the suggestion above about the Pelican Parts DIY section or the DIY section on the Pedro's Garage website. Good luck! |
I got my brake wear sensors changed when I got new pads and rotors.

If your ABS light is on it is possible that an ABS sensor needs replacing. This is not the same as the wear sensor and is unfortunately much more expensive. It is located next to the brake caliper on each wheel, not anywhere near the pedal.

changing the brake light switch is just like in the vw/audi DIY's. just follow those.
be sure to have your VIN with you when you order the new switch. |
he changed his pads. read the thread.

Hey Dave,
I think that was a spam-bot that made that post, probably why it's been deleted. They seem to have been hitting this forum lately. Mark |
