Has anyone tried raising the rollover bar by inserting blocks between it and the body

I know people buy the Brey Krause rollover bar extension for extra clearance, but do you think it's possible to simply carve some chunks of steel or aluminum to fit between the OEM roll bar and whatever it bolts to in an effort to raise it a couple inches? I realize it would involve more labor for installation, but wouldn't that be a more elegant solution?
Of course the bolts would have to be the strongest around, and the fitment would have to be ideal, but assuming those things are dialed in, what other things are there to consider. I don't think it would significantly compromise the structural integrity if done right.
Your thoughts?

Garage
I thought about doing this, and then I had a good look at the rollbar and the car. The problem is that the rollbar is what the top mounts to. If you raise the rollbar, you also raise the top mounts. Unless you're willing to live without the top, it won't work.

Oh.

Yeah.

I can see how that could cause a problem.
Thanks
