Wheel Geometry Boxster 2001 2.7

Just acquired a nine year old Boxster 2.7.
I noticed that there was quite a bit of uneven wear on both front tyres, so I took it to one of Aberdeen (in Scotland UK) German car specialists (Bavaria Autowerke) to have the wheel geometry checked.........
Unbelievably, they said they could not do this, and referred me to Aberdeen Porsche, claiming that their standard wheel alignment equipment was not suitable for my car.
I mentioned this to my local village garage, and they agreed to do it for me, and said they saw no reason why it should not be a straight forward job with standard laser equipment.

I would have thought that a Porsche Boxster would have similar Wheel alignment adjustment to most other modern cars?
Are there any issues that I should be aware of regarding wheel alignment?

Cheers guys
RD

No, my Boxster (1st & only Porsche) wears tires more evenly than any car I have ever owned. If any shop is not sure if they can align your car thank them for their excellant advice & move on.

I appreciate your response.

I had heard that Boxsters should have alignment checked on a regular basis, because of the impact on tyre wear, fuel economy, and of course performance, but I think this applies to most cars......non?

Boxster's alignment is a bit more complicated than a standard car and some alignment shops don't want to deal with the hassle of setting them up right. In fact many owners complain that their alignment is off at the time of original new car delivery.

Alignment can also be set up to maximize traction or tire wear, each at the expense of the other. You shouldn't need to have your car aligned every year unless you have poor roads, accident damage, poor tire wear, or handling issues your trying to sort out.

Your best bet is to seek out local recommendations for specialists in your area that are familiar aligning Boxsters.

You should be able to find alignment specs in one of the Boxster forums to match you driving style.

I figured the answer would not be straight forward!
I wrongly assumed that a cars alignment was either correct or not......

According to my local rural garage, the alignment figures of the front wheels were set correctly (to Porsche spec), and the back needed a small adjustment.
I suppose the proof of how my car is set up will be in how even/uneven the tyre wear is over the next few months.

Thanks again for you response
