Newbie question, throttle pedal
Hi everyone. I just put a down payment on a '99 boxster with low miles (48k). I test drove it and ran nice and had great handling. However, the throttle pedal was strange. The pedal felt normal for the first 1/3 of the range then it was very stiff for the rest of the range. It seemed to go to Wide open but I had had to press quite hard. After thinking it over I thought there must be something wrong with. It was just to stiff for comfort.
Anyone have any thoughts on this accel pedal situation. Is this normal? Thanks :) |
ive never felt any strain in pushing the pedal. but mine is EGas so that may make a difference.

There is no linkage, it is drive by wire, I suggest you replace the pedal with a new one, crap can get in the mechanism.

My '99 is a linkage throttle, and there is no stiffness or strange feel to it. I'd get that looked at before you commit to buy if I were you.
I believe that egas was introduced in 2000. Mark |
Sorry I stand corrected I thought all 986s were egas.

Boxsters had cable operated throttles until 2000MY when Porsche went to E-gas that opens the throttle electronically even though the gas pedal is connected by a short cable to the sensor that sends input to the ECM. Sounds like the OP's 99 may have a misrouted cable which should be a easy enough fix but makes you wonder if a major repair was being done & the cable was misrouted then. Could be a good thing (New Engine ) or amatuer maintenence.
