battery arcing

When I install the battery terminals(new battery) on a 2000 Boxster the negative terminal arcs like crazy. Has anybody experienced this before ?

What do you mean "Arcs like Crazy"?

Do you mean there is a spark when you connect the negative terminal? or that the terminal arcs to ????

There are always some open circuits on the Boxster - Alarm Box, Radio (for station presets memory), etc.

This means that when you connect a battery, there wiull be an instant current draw and likely a spark or two. It's normal.

But, you should always connect the terminals as quickly as you can because you can cause issues if you keep engaging/disengaging power from the battery. Also, with the fuel tank essentially right underneath the battery, it's generally not a good idea to be generating a series of sparks. Also be sure to hookup your battery vent tube as well.

Cheers!

Are you sure the terminals are

the same as the ones on the battery you removed. IIRC, the ground/negative is on the right side as you face the windshield from the front of the car. There are batteries where this is reversed. I'll assume you have the key out of the ignition switch.
