weird tick tocking sound in passenger dash
 

past two days I've had this tick tocking sound (like a horse trotting) comin from the passenger dash area (like under the airbag)

it starts when i one click ignition and and continues when i start the car.. it;s quite audible and then disappears when i turn the a/c on...

so obviously it must be an a/c problem? so far no probs with airconditioning or temp or car performance...just that annoying sound ...

anyone know what it is?

Sounds like a fan to me - when the bushings/bearings go bad, sometimes a blade will start ticking against the housing (or some object is interfering with the fan). It goes AWAY when you turn on the AC?

Could just be some of the insulation has broken loose and is caught in the fan.

My older boxster is spitting out pieces of insulation at me when the AC blower is on high.

yes it goes away when i turn on the a/c...when i click the ignition is when it starts.... and continues on at engine start....pretty audible...

and then disappears when the aircon is turned on...

weird..

what I've noticed also is the smells from outside are more perceptible now even when the switch for internal coolin is clicked...meaning the a/c is drawing air from the outside...could be that?

will have to bring it in to check on monday...but if i can save some stealership bucks I'd rather self-diagnose

Sounds like one of the blend doors is not moving properly.
