CDR23 replacement

Hi,
Looking to change the standard CDR23 head unit for something with ipod connectivity. Looking at a Sony DSX-S100 (No cd player, but has tray inside for ipod or other mp3 player).
Does anyone know if this will work, are there any issues I should be aware of if so, and would I need any adapters to install on the MOST system? Searched the forums but cant find any guidance on just replacing the standard head units.

This is my first Boxster (2002 S), only had it 2 weeks and loving it. The cdr23 is a bit lame though and instead of going the Dension 500 route I am curious to see if this will work.
Thanks in advance,
Dave

I think there are only two choices with the CDR23. Rip out everything and start over, or go with the Dension. Might be able to get away with keeping the original speakers. I've got the Bose audio system, so the impedance of the Bose speakers isn't the same as normal speakers. Car speakers are normally 4 ohms and the Bose speakers are 2 ohms, I believe. Not sure about the non-Bose speakers. I don't think it's worth doing a head unit and amp without changing the speakers though.

I'm fairly happy with the Dension. Has worked well for 3 years. Did have to bring the car to the dealer to have them activate the "CD changer" since the Dension mimics a Porsche CD changer. The dealer had no idea what to do, but it just ended up working after they tried several things and gave up, lucky for me.

Im installing a pioneer head unit next weekend and am planing on just keeping the stock amp and speakers and hooking up the head unit to the amp though the un-amplified "Out" connector on the head unit.
that way I dont have to mess with installing the 4ohm speakers. My head unit is cdr 220 though and it uses the wires to connect to the amp and not the fiber-optic like some of the newed Porsche head units. Make sure yours does the same
