S vs non-S calipers/brakes?
 
Hi all.

I'm curious to know if the S and non-S calipers have the same mounting points? Or is an adapter required?

I'm also assuming that I need to change up the rotors as well. 298mm vs 318mm right?

The fronts are a bolt on swap, the back is more complicated. The rear suspension hub carriers are different (due to the six speed) and use a different diameter e-brake. To do the rear swap, you either have to change out the hub carriers & e-brake (very pricey) or find rear S rotors that are machined to the base e-brake diameter (Brembo used to make them, but no longer do). In the real world, 80% of your braking effort is on the fronts, so spending the bucks to do the rears is questionable.................

Thanks for the info. I am more concerned with the fronts than the rears, which is a good thing as you pointed out.

One more question, do the Boxster and Cayman (S and non-S) share the same brakes? :confused:

Not all years do; for example, both the latest Cayman and Boxsters have ceramic brakes available, which never exisited on the earlier models, and cross drilled brakes are now available on base level cars, so interchangability is a question mark across all models. Spending some time with a knowlegeable parts guy might be in order...........

for straight line braking, but braking during slight turns and such, wouldn't using S at the front and non-s at the back unbalance the braking system? or would the ABS take care of this?

We have several customers that run the "S" brakes on the front only, as well as a couple with Brembo’s “Big Red” two piece front rotors that are even bigger, and does not seem to upset the brake proportioning system at all............
