Short shifter questions

I've done a search but couldn't find what I was looking for. I am going to get either a b&m or schnell.

Can anyone tell me if my Porsche shift knob will fit them? Also anyone have opinions on them?

Thanks-

Kyle

In my experience, both will accept the oem shift knob. As far as which brand is better, I've read numerous, positive remarks about both of them. I know for a fact, that many of the high end after market "tuners" that offer their own short shifter, have simply rebranded either the B&M or Schnell under their own name.

Porsche knob will fit fine. I have the B&M and like it...no regrets. Some will say they are a tad notchy, and mine is a little when the car is cold.

Once hot, good to go.

Porsche knobs will fit fine on B&M, Schnell and even the knock offs on ebay.

I put a B&M into my '99 986 and thought it was fantastic! Sometimes a little stiff when cold but otherwise nothing short of a great mod. Another alternative, to keep the buttery smooth shifting but not quite as short, is to go w/ a stock shifter from either a 987 or 997.

Good luck and stop rowing your Porsche :D

Thank you gentlemen.

I am laughing at the "rowing" comment :)

I went with the B & M, should be here early next week!

more questions

anything like a bad short shifter? Saw one on e-bay that looks identical to B&M one.

short shifter installed!

Got the B & M shifter installed today. Was only a moderate pita.

The shifter is wonderful! I can't believe the difference....it feels great, and makes shifting much more fun!

Highly recommend everyone does this!

I've read comments about it not being as smooth, how has your experience been?

To me it's awesome! Mine is smooth, and I like it 100% better than the stock piece. My thought is this is how it should have come from the factory!

Love it!

I've got a brand new B&M short shifter still in the wrapping if anyone is interested. I was going to do this mod, but never got around to it.

Up for grabs..

After nearly three years of experience with a short shift kit, I am absolutely in love with the below mentioned modification and could not see myself without one. Albeit a Techart unit, it is the same dynamic. Do yourself the favor, buy it, and enjoy the hell out of it post installation!
