Engine blewl smoke

Hi I have a 97 986 was over taking a car noticed the engine check light come on saw smoke from the exhaust lots. It cleared after about two minuits engine check light still :dance on still expect oil over the oxygen sensor doing that dose not misfire any ideas what is going on??

probably an A/O (air/oil) Separator failure.
Very common item to go. I would not drive it. Have it flat bedded to your mechanic of choice unless you want to diy. Lots of previous discussions here on the forum regarding this subject.

scan it for codes....check all fluid levels

I concur... sounds like the A/O failed or at least partially failed/cracked. I've seen one fail at the track and there was a LOT of smoke. But if you have smoke AND oil on the O2 sensors, then you're either looking at a failed A/O separator or something much worse inside the engine. I'd lean towards the A/O separator being the problem and get it replaced. Do a search as there is an option to upgrade it to a better unit.
