Clutch engagement

I have a 2000 boxster with about 25,000 miles on it. The clutch engages when the pedal reaches almost at the very top of its travel. Is this normal, is there any adjustment? I have seen some people say to check the hydraulic fluid level and others said to introduce air into the system to get the engagement to happen about half way up the pedal travel.

I think an earlier engagement would allow a better shift feel.

You could try bleeding the clutch, some people have claimed improvements but there is no adjustment per se and what you have described is indicative of a worn clutch. Changing the clutch is the only sure way to get it to engage lower on the pedal.

EDIT: Air is never a good thing in a hydraulic system, do not listen to whomever gave you that advice.

My clutch started that right before it went out might as well replace now & save your flywheel & replace IMS bearing too.

Ummmm no. A hydraulic system works on the premise that the fluid is non-compressible and thus able to transmit energy. A gas is compressible, and destroys the effectiveness of any hydraulic system.

You can try bleeding the clutch to get any air that may be in there OUT, which if there is sufficient air in the system, may improve things significantly, but it sounds like your clutch is just worn and due for replacement.

It's also worth noting, that if you let the clutch really get bad, that it will ruin the flywheel, and you'll have to replace that too.
