Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires
Anyone have an opinion on this tire? Noisy? hard or soft ride? I'm just a regular driver, not into track racing, etc... just regular city driving, occasional highway driving.
The treadwear is 500AA UTQW which is the highest for this particular Michelin tire. I'm going to run to Discount and take a look on my lunch break. |
Very nice tire, and pricey. Stiff sidewall for an A/S tire. If you don't push the car you would probably prefer a lesser-performing tire that costs less and rides smoother.
|
What is "A/S"? ...and Does a stiff sidewall result in a stiffer ride, or hugs corners better? I'm clueless on tires really. Thanks.
|
A/S = all-season. Stiff sidewalls transmit more of the little bumps to the driver. In other words, you'll feel more of the expansion joints and little bumps. The trade off is quicker response to your steering inputs. The difference way be subtle, but you will feel it. Typically more aggressive or performance-oriented tires have stiffer sidewalls.

My girlfriend complains when she is trying to put on her eyeliner when I'm crossing railroad tracks :) In all seriousness I'd rather buy a tire that has a smoother ride. I guess I don't necessarily have to Z rated tires. I rarely drive way over the speed limit anyway.
Somebody mentioned Falken brand which is way cheaper, and smooth. Discount Tire has the FK452's. Any opinions on that? I'm afraid to buy cheap... you get what you pay for. |
disregard everyone. ...and thanks Pat. I went ahead and bought the Michelins. With a total of only 5 miles they seem to be much smoother than the Pirelli P-Zeros I had on before, could be psychological, but I think I notice a difference. Discount bent me over for $1,000 including road hazard. These tires are guaranteed for 45,000 miles.
|
That seems like a good price. My PS2's were about $1,300 including installation and alignment. I never go for the road hazard thing though.
|
Texomawave, unless your a 75 year old granny, you can forget the 45000 mile guarantee.

finally put some highway miles on my new tires. I love em!!!!!!!!
