Rear lights on boxster 2000 "HELP"

I just bought my first boxster last monday and I am learning new things every day..

YAY...

Yesterday I noticed that with the headlights switch off or in the neutral position and the car running all my lights in the front are on BUT ONLY the left rear lights are on, this seems like a day time running light but why are just the left lights in the rear working???

If I move the switch over to park or lights on position the right lights do work (all lights and signals).. could this be a function for when pulled over other cars coming towards us will see us better??

I am thinking that if there was a wire problem then my lights should not work when I change the position of the light switch.. or could it be my light switch itself?

Thanks.
