LS1 engine swap
Found an LS1 blueprint engine for $3500 however it doesn't come with Intake, valve covers, oil pan, timing cover, and harmonic balancer. I am not sure if some of those can be kept from your original engine like the oil pan but if you can you could have a lot more HP and FT-LB thanks not going to break the bank. Even if you can't keep any of those things that the LS1 doesn't come with that would be a great swap. Kind of makes me look forward to my 2.7l eating sh** so that I can swap it for the LS1. Agreed?
 |
That would be cool. Actually do a search on it as I have seen it somewhere on the net with pics. The most expensive part I imagine would be the tires you have to replace 3 times a year. :D

I was looking at a 5.3l aluminum 350 h.p. from turnkeyenginesupply.com. I imagine it would be hard to fit in. I have a 2.7l in my 2001 boxster right now, does anyone know how this might swap? Medium difficulty? Extreme difficulty? I know that I would have to get a new tranny to one that can handle the torque of that 5.3l beast, what could I keep on the boxster with this new engine?

there is a project already started about it by brad roberts. there is another thread jus tlike this with the links to his progress.

Thanks a bunch, this should really help

Absolutely nothing that you'd need for an LS1 could be salvaged from your motor. We're talking flat 6 vs. V8 here.
That said, it is hypothetically possible (as Brad is working on) to stuff an LS1 into a Boxster. If you're going to go this route, I'd go as big as possible, which means 7.0 LS7, since they all have the same exterior dimensions (same reasoning why if you're talking M96/97 engines you may as well go all the way to 3.8 as its no bigger outside than 2 .5). |
