Console Lock Broken

Hello, I just purchased my first Porsche last month (2001 Boxster) and the lock for the console storage is broken. It just spins when I put the key in and it appears to be pushed down below the console plastic surrounding it. I want to try and repair this myself but I have no idea where to start. Does anyone know if I can pop the middle console storage open manually and keep it unlocked? Bypassing the need to use the actual key lock to open the storage? Thanks in advance for any help.

Locking the console is optional so if it's unlocked you don't have to use the key at all.

If I understand what you are saying correctly, it sounds like you are going to have to take out the entire console so you can get at the lock mechanism from the bottom to fix whatever is broken and allowing the lock to spin. Maybe someone that has taken their console out before can chime in to confirm or deny this.

Thanks for Reply

I was hoping there would be a way to pop the latch to the lid but I can't fit any tool in there. Console removal.. sounds like a big task for this newbie! Thanks so much for responding.

There are actually 2 screws inside the storage compartment that need to be removed to take out the console. There is also 1 under the ashtray, and 2 up at the front....if i remember correctly.

Thanks Kyle

Thanks Kyle, My problem is I cannot get the console compartment open as the key lock is broken and the compartment is stuck in the locked position. I'm taking it into the dealership where I bought it.. they said they will fix it for free!?!? That kinda surprized me! Thank you for responding.
