2001 gas tank door locked

Just took off the trickle-charger and wanted to remove the orange light for the gas tank. Of course it isn't in the 'quick' manual and I can't seem to find the magic trick with bing/google to release the lock on the gas tank door. It is the first sunny Saturday in months and Porsche Service won't be open until Monday... Can anyone here give me the secret so some driving can take place?

Many thanks in advance, -renster, very tired of snow...

I have a 1997MY so it may be different. But, my gas cap door is locked only when the doors are locked . I hope it is that simple for you.

Regards,
Mark

On my 06 there's a manual release near the top hinge of the passenger side door.

Thanks Mark but it was something else. I called Porsche Roadside Assistance and they pointed me to the very thin ring loop above the joint on the passenger side of the door frame. When the car sits for extended periods (was snowed in for over a month) the gas tank lock trips so that theft and tampering attempts are thwarted.
