Broken ignition switch? Maybe not!

Ok, I had a problem with my 99 Box thinking a key was still in the ignition even after the key was removed. All signs pointed to it being a faulty ignition switch since I hear they go out all the time? I purchased a new ignition switch, installed it (thanks for the pointers!) and it was doing the same thing! It still thought the key was in the ignition even after I removed it!

So after playing with it for awhile, I realized there is a pin in the ignition switch that can be pushed in and spring loaded back out. My actual key lock was not popping back out like it should when the key is removed, so it was holding the pin in, on the ignition switch.

I pulled the switch back out, cleaned the locking mech with brake cleaner (not sure if this was the best idea, but it's what I had), and then with a quick shot of WD40. I worked it back and forth with the ignition switch still disconnected. It started working fine!

I reinstalled the ignition switch, tested everything and we're back to normal now!

Hope this helps anyone who was scratching their head as I was!
