Really need some advice
I currently own a 2001 Boxster S, I am in Tx but am returning home to the UK in two weeks, I realise that there will be minor changes in the level of trim/spec, however my question is that my US car is rated as 250bhp, yet I believe the UK spec car is 260bhp, is this true? If so will the increase in octane to UK fuel '98' will this result in the increase in performance? Anyone help?
|
I doubt that it would have a 10 horsepower difference due to merely the octane rating. I am just guessing here, but it is probably due to some sort of tuning difference with regards to emissions. If anyone knows for sure I would be curious to know.
|
Perhaps he is referring to 03/04 S models that have 260hp and is just confusing the two.
|
I thought the 03 and up models were 258HP.
My guess is a difference in emissions requirements necessitated a lower HP tune here in US. Perhaps it is only a chip difference. That is my hunch. Your dealer should be able to answer that question easily. |
Yeah, technically the 03's/04's have 258hp but most people just round up. I guess people do the same with the 987 S too. C&D had the output rated at 276hp, but most people say it has 280hp. Perhaps C&D is mistaken though.

I used to try and round up my grades in school. The nuns took a dim view of that though! :D
|
I've heard nuns have that habit...

Good one!
:p |
My only concern was that I was exporting from the US a slightly different spec'd car and therefore this would devalue the car if I was to sell in the UK. So heres another one. Is a 2001 S less bhp than a 2003 S???
|
Older S has 250 hp. '03 and newer S have 258 hp.
The reason it is listed in the UK as 260 hp is because they use a slightly different conversion factor (DIN vs SAE) than the US. I'm guessing the biggest problem selling a US car in the UK is the steering wheel location. :p - |
thanks for clearing that up for me, wasn't aware of the power difference!
As you can guess having the wheel on the wrong side is a bit of a problem for resale. I'm advertising on Ebay at the moment but if it doesn't sell it's going on the boat to the UK. Guess I'll just have to take it easy with the overtaking |
It ain't just the resale value you have to worry about by bringing a left hand car to the UK... you'll also pay FAR HIGHER insurance premiums. Check it and you'll see what I mean.
Same goes for a right hand car driven here in the USA... very expensive. |
To be honest this is exactly what I thought myself, having got a handful of quotes, some insurance companies heavily load the premium where as some have no loading at all, surprising really

i say sell ur S here and buy a 911 over there. u get an upgrade and u save urself some hassles :)
