Deambering headlights?

I had read somewhere that there was a certain way you could remove the amber film from the front headlights. Has anyone here tried this? If so could you tell me how because i would like to do the same i think the amber looks horrible on my black car...

Sorry fella, you can not remove the "amber film" on the older front lights, "deambering" relates to the removal of the amber light bulb shield on the inside of the newer clear front lights.

If you have what's known as the 'clear' or facelift headlights then it's relatively easy - If you have what I think you have then...nada.

I think this will explain it better than I can:

Just say NO to de-ambering.

Porsche_Baller 12-17-2009 09:07 AM

Lol why just say no?

It'll reduce your horse power by 5. ;)

Lobo1186 12-19-2009 08:51 AM

In the 80s it was all the rage to get amber 'euro' turn signals. Then it was smoked, white, and now LEDs. I'll just stick with what the factory gave me, I can't justify spending $400+ for something that won't improve performance or reliability

That's just me, I won't criticize anyone for doing it. If you've got the money, go for it. It does look nice.

Lobo1186 12-19-2009 10:11 AM

I like LEDs (always have) but i dont like the solutions offered for the Box. If i could get FULL Led brake light setups then i would but all i have found are combo ones.

my solution is im gunna put transparent (no reflection) vinyl and it does a good job of covering up the amber. I do like amber but i definetely like red-out tail lights more. and for only 50 or so bux. it is worth it to me. im thinking of doing that to my side blinkers too... not sure if it would look wierd or just... illegal.

Porsche_Baller 12-19-2009 12:18 PM

So by what y'all are saying i can get some headlight for a 03 boxster or whatever year comes with the "clears" (not the litronics) and theyll fit my 99?

Lobo1186 12-19-2009 01:56 PM

yes. here is a link to buy them new.

Clears

AND of course you could always buy them used online

Clears for me...I feel it is a better look with black exterior.
