Bump starting a Boxster

I had an interesting thought. My battery died the other day. The car would not start (clicking and headlights flashed). However there was still enough juice to bring up the instruments, interior lights etc. If I had rolled it down my driveway, popped the clutch while holding the key to the starter position would the car start?

I have had to bump start my 944 on many occasions when it had a bad battery. On that car it was easy and I even bumped it in reverse. But modern cars have far more electronics.

I am just curious if its possible or if anyone's done it. I chickened out because it was raining and if it didn't work i would have been stranded at the end of my driveway.

Yes, you can pop-start you Boxster - not something I like to do often, but I ran my already failing battery completely down at an autocross last year and had to pop-start to get to pre-grid... was happy I parked on a slight downhill that day.

BTW, you would not want to be twisting your key in the "start" position - just leave it in the 'on' position.

we are refering to a push start? or is this something different.

I had the same question a couple years ago. I remember reading in a thread that it was "not recommended" in our cars. OTOH, I have no idea why it would be a problem. I've never had to try it (so far).
