2nd Air Pump Bad.....
Who here has replaced it? I got CEL codes P0410 and P1411,both point to a bad 2nd air pump. Makes sense,it's slowly been getting loud over the years. Although I haven't ruled out valves at this point.
How much is a good price for it? Sunset Imports said it was $1k just in parts alone...but I've seen people here replace them for $600 installed. -01' 986 S w/ 60k on it. |

Does anyone know if I can reflash the DME to RoW spec and adjust avoid this from happening all together?

Yes, the ROW flash ignores the secondary air injection. You can pull the pump and all of the parts off of the motor and cap the injection ports with block off plates from Porsche.
Part numbers are, 996 113 140 53 996 113 340 50 for the plates and 996 113 233 50 996 113 213 51 for the gaskets. -Todd |
Good luck finding a place that does it, i tried a year back and the responce was weird, it was like listening to someone read off nerviously for emission reasons that they cannot do this for me.

jumping in to say my secondary pump in my 03 986S recently went and I found one on ebay for $100 + shipping from a guy with the username mb_doctor1
( http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/mb_doctor1/ ) After changing it out it still wasn't kicking on so I checked the fuse in the rear trunk and saw that the fuse was blown. (obvious rule of thumb, check the fuses first!) I needed to replace the pump anyway, my old one was whining a bit and I feel like it's possible that the old one died and that's what caused the fuse to blow in the first place. BUT, if you want my old one let me know, you can have it for the cost of shipping since I can't guarantee it's not dying (or already dead). |

If you can do those jobs the removal of the secondary air system will be no problem. The easiest approach is to remove the intake manifolds to gain access. Then it is just a couple of bolts. It is not necessary to remove the air system components with the ROW flash, it just cleans up the engine bay. If you have to pass a visual inspection it would be best to leave everything in place.

The ROW DME doesn't think that the air system is there so it doesn't run/use it.

Yeah it did. If I remember right the codes were p0491 and p0492. |
