Rear bearings replacement?

From the sounds of it, I need to replace the rear bearings on my just bought 2000 Boxster (34K miles). Wheel noise quite loud at all speeds, and there's a "womp-womp" at higher speeds.

How difficult of a job is it, and do I need any special tools? I'm a good mechanic, and have done engine swaps, clutch work, a/c installation, etc.

Any tips, sources appreciated.

Any chance it is the tires. Bad tires can make a terrible racket!

Tires are pretty new, and it definitely sounds/feels more metallic. How would I check that? Rotation?
