Gas Fill Issue

I went to gas up and found gas not going into tank. It seemed like as if it was full. But it would gush out as quickly as I pump gas? Anyone exp. this problem?

THANKS

I have the same issue

When I first bought the car, the previous owner told me it would happen unless I took it to a Shell station...where he never had issues with filling. 2 years later, I have the problem regardless of which station I take it too. It's not so bad if you're patient and you don't mind it taking 10 minutes while you trickle gas in your car.

Well I've read a lot of threads that talks about changing out one of the fuses, hope that will help solve your problem...that would be awesome. As for mine, it has to do with one of the two valves, one located at the filler neck and the other one you have to take the fender off as it is located near by the tank...as it is just my luck, I replaced the one on the filler neck and I still have the problem. Anyhow, I didn't bother getting it further repaired so for the meantime I wouldn't park behind me if at the gas station if you're waiting to filler up.

Same issue here, I've learned to live with it...do let us know if you find a fix!

I think it's just a Porsche thing. My '66 is the same way. There are certainly no valves or switches in it's fuel line. The gas backs up a bit at the bend which is right where a modern gas nozzle bottoms out. That makes the nozzle think the tank is full. I assume the 986 tank is probably set up the same way. I just put the nozzle in just far enough that it doesn't fall out. It seems to work well for both of them.

One time the hose from the top of the tank to the heater fell off and I pumped a gallon or so into the trunk.... it's safe to say that 901's are a unique experience.

I don't think that is normal, as I don't have any issues with filling gas. Where I live (NJ), they have to fill the gas for you at stations, and I've never had a problem. I have read that there is a fuse that controls a valve in the fill tube. Hopefully, your issue is as simple as replacing that fuse.

Here's some threads that outline that:

Glad I don't have that problem... just wished my speedometer was accurate or could be calibrated :( ...just another one of those "Porsche things"

Fuse E6. Aparently there is a wire on the cell phone connection that shorts out and blows the fuse.
