986 Shifter linkage pushed it's luck..

Shifter popped out of the socket for the 3rd time. 2x today. I was on the highway this time. was able to coast to off ramp into a parking lot. I carry a Torx with me now since the first time it happened. Just buttoned everything up (30 min. later), on my way home. Very soft shift at 25 mph. SNAP!

That's it I've had it with this car. I love this car, but if this doesn't fix the problem. I'm moving on. probably Exige S.

This was a horrible design, are kidding me  , unless my shifter is missing something there is nothing retaining the bottom of the shifter in the Linkage other than pressure.

done venting now.

I Just bought this. I really hope it works.

Anybody using a Schnell Short Shift Kit????? yes no?

I've been using that kit for about 9 months and, once I got it adjusted properly, I love it. I didn't however use the linkage piece of that kit ( didn't look like any better setup than original). You may need to as that seems like it is the part that is popping off. It will be notchier than stock, especially until car is warmed up.

Nice, did you do the install yourself? Just wondering how it went if so. Obiviously the first half I have done (removing center console) multiple times.

As far as adjusting, you mean how far to thread the linkage ends on or something else?

Thanks for the Info

btw I just got back from downtown Portland, OR. surprised it didn't rain more than it did.

I'm using the same kit too. I didn't install the linkage, but the rest of the install is pretty easy. Install isn't bad. I wound up destroying the factory bushings - I chopped 'em out with a utility knife - and having a pair of snap ring pliers will make life suck less.
