Pedro "Hi Flo Air Intake"

Just wondering if anyone has done this mod?

Any extra horses or sound??? The cost of this mod is not here nor there which is appealing, but is it worthwhile?

I have wanted to do this for a long time but never took the time to source the materials. I believe it will improve sound & performance slightly maybe more if the tube can be insulated well from heat. I will try & do this next week

I did this, agency power kit. insulated inside of box to reduce IAT.

i have done this pedro mod and i get a very gratifying intake melody. ill take some pics over the weekend and post them

cool, Can I add this mod to what I have done already?

It looks like its talking about modding the section after the MAF up to the throttle body. Is that correct? Or is it mainly talking about the airbox?

of course i made mine out of PVC i kno i kno its not optimal but i didnt have aluminum and what not lying around. but from ur pics i think you could quite nicely and my pics will have to wait until the weekend... sorry

I attempted it today but to no avail.

I think the throttle body may be at a different angle on the 3.2 as it looked like a 45 degree bend would have fitted much better.

Next week I am going to source a length of air-seeder hose in 3" diameter that should fit. This will be easier to install and should create the same end result.

After pulling the hose off, I believe the only real benefit to this mod is removing the "muffler" on the intake hose. Not sure if under wide open throttle it will make much difference, but it should benefit low end torque. Of course the sound will be an improvement as well.

P.S. Just looked at Pedro's site, the boxster he did this mod on is different to the 3.2.

The only tip I can give at this stage is remove the oem hose first and then buy elbows with angles to suit. 90 degree bends did not work for me.

I just replaced the intake tube.
I left the airbox intact.

Actually PVC is very good.
It's lighter and a better insulator than aluminum.
It's also slick inside.
The only downside is that long-term it will tend to crack because of the heat from the engine. But it'll be a few years. Enjoy!

My hack was done on my '98 with the 2.5L engine.
Model Years '97 through '99 are the same.

In 2000, Porsche introduced a new throttle body (with e-gas) and it's shared by the 2.7 as well as the 3.2 through 2004.

The angle of the throttle body's mounting is different as well as the diameter of the cross section (it's smaller).

I'll try to find (a victim) with a newer Boxster so that I can document the hack on them.

I am finally getting around to evaluating the test engines that we spoke about a few weeks ago.. Get me one of the intakes and I';ll test it on several different configurations along with the techno torque and provide the data backl to you.

really ppbon? sweet! i like it and it was a fun mod to do helped boost my confidence in adapting and trying things myself. btw thanks for your site its great!




by the way i did mine on a 2.7L 2001. was very easy

Folks, my mechanic did something very similar on my 2002 S ... 3.2 which was easy. I have not tested it as I am waiting for headers to be shipped.

What he did to the intake before he reinstalled the engine was to remove said intake pipe.
I had removed the resonator and cleaned it up (earlier).

He placed a cap on the resonator port with a clamp.

He then filled the cavity with epoxy and let it cure.

The epoxy was sanded down to create a smooth surface and finished off with a wet sand & dryed off.

He reinstalled it.

Cost would be the price of the cap, clamp, epoxy and sand paper.

Another way would be to use contact cement and a thin flexable plastic piece to cover the hole. When cured it could be sanded down to get rid of any ridges.

He had also de snorkled and carved ot the plastic inside the air box to make a smoother surface. He is also looking at installing plastic "sheet" inside to smoth the air flow. Once the car is off the hoist I'll try to get some photos taken.

Just a few suggestions ... BTW ... He is factory trained, worked in England on Porsches as well as here in Canada for 25 + years. He did wonders on my 1986 951 ... noe of the fastest STOCK cars out there.

The TechnoFlo does not increase HP or Torque.
It just makes the car sound cool when you're accelerating.
It makes a giant sucking sound, as Ross Perot used to say.
The OEM air tube has a couple of sound baffles mandated by TUV regulations.
But, together with a de-snorkel, a bored out throttle body, TechnoTorque, headers, 100 cell cats, Pedro Sport Exhaust and complete remapping of the ECU it can't hurt
