New Headers and Cats

I just received my new custom headers and sport cats from M&M exhaust in Germany via FVD Brombacher. They feature propriety tubing diameters, precise laser cut flanges, equal length primaries and a race style merge collector along with 200 cell tri-metal HJS cats. The quality, fit and finish is unequalled.

Expen$$$ive ! But worth it. :p If you go to FVD's web-site (www.fvd.us ) they list the price.

what size are the primary's coming off the headers 1 3/4?? also you will probably get a CEL from the back O2's. I didn't get one until after about 100 miles.

I've seen the Fabspeed headers. They are a nice product indeed. However, the M&M headers use nickel throughout their design, to include the very best HJS cats that incorporate a true tri-metal configuration.

The difference between these two manufacturers is that Fabspeed constructs theirs from T304 SS and the M&M headers are constructed of T316 SS.

Ni is approx. 8-10.5% in T304.

Ni is 12% in T316. T316 is made for marine environments.

Unless you are exposing your undercarriage to salt, say in a South Florida environment, or Northeast winters, that would be the only benefit of owning the M&M headers.

Hp gains are the same +/-.

I can assure you, that there is a big difference in the quality of cats that were used. The M&M cats utilize the highest level 200 cell tri-metal design HJS has to offer. By the way, if you took the time to look at my profile you would see that I live in New England. Up here we have snow , salt, rain, oceans ect.. Not that my car ever comes out of the garage unless its sunny. :ah:

Stroked & Blown 09-04-2009 02:07 PM

That's 15% of the value of the car on headers. Jeez.

Considering the fact that it would cost me close to 100k to replace my Boxster S with a 2010 with all of the mods my vehicle has, 3k is pocket change. ;)

I have one of those also. An orange 997 GT3 to be exact. And you will never see an exhaust system sold through Ebay on that vehicle either . :D

NICE, VERY, VERY NICE. Thanks for pointing these out as I didn't even know it was an option from FVD. I agree with most folks here that it's pretty spendy though for headers, but I'm not going to criticize your personal choice to buy them for your car. That's your choice! I've had enough flack myself lately because I recently bought a 996 and an older 914 so that I now have 3 Porsches. Everyone at my work criticizes my choices in the cars that I've purchased. Screw them! It's my money and if I'm a car guy I'm not going to drive a freakin' Hyundai to work. Now I drive a '72 914 to work every day. :p In the same vein, it's your money and God bless you if you want to indulge in such a nice set of headers. I do agree that they do look like especially good quality, even compared to the Fabspeed.

Thanks Kirk. You and I speak the same language ! I thought the purpose of this forum was for Porschephiles to be able to proudly display their vehicles and in return receive positive feed-back from like enthusiasts. You and I have both invested considerable time and passion into our vehicles. And as a result, we both have "signature" Boxsters. To me, this elevates the Boxster to a level where its given serious attention within the Porsche community, and not simply viewed as the "poor cousin" to the Carrera ect... Whether one is limited to simply de-ambering, or de-snorkeling their Boxster, or they are fortunate enough to be able to purchase 3K headers, we should be admiring one another's accomplishments and not bashing each other. :ah:

I don't think anyone bashed you so I don't know why you feel that way. A few people including myself were just shocked at the price of these headers. I'm sure they are great quality and if you're happy with them that is wonderful, but if people also question what makes these better than say the Fabspeed or Maxspeed for that matter, I don't see anything wrong with that. That's why people come on here, to make informed decisions and get info.

When a member makes remarks like "hwy robbery" along with an icon depicting some ridiculous facial expression regarding my purchase of an expensive set of headers, thats not someone making an informed decision or gathering information. Thats simply a jackass !

True, I do agree that comment wasn't the most helpful, but as a whole people just want see what makes these headers so expensive and you answered, so I'm satisfied. Thank you for sharing as I didn't even know these headers existed either.

Bobiam 09-08-2009 11:39 AM

I'd hang those pipes on the walls of my home. They're too good looking to put under any car, Boxster or not. :p

eightsandaces 09-08-2009 11:55 AM

Johnny,

Can you compare the experience of the GT3 vs a Boxster?

PS Enjoy your cash man, (this doesn't sound like advise you need) screw it, when I had a lot I certainly blew my share.
