TIP problem
Last night started the car and the TIP knob would not depress so I could not select any drive position. After turning the wheel to lock, restarting the car, then trying again it worked. Drove into town, when finished making two beers go away, I came out and same thing happened only this time it wouldn't move after three attempts including unlocking the wheel. Went back in bar and talked to friend, came out and everything worked OK. Came home, shut it down, then started up again and knob worked OK.
Anybuddy have a similar experience and if so what was the solution? AKL  |
Sounds like trouble with the keylock lever - a cam type lever on the selector mechanism which prevents shifting the car out of park without the key being inserted and rotating It's a fairly simple mechanism and uses a cable to swing it into the lock/unlock positions when the ignition key is turned.
These little cams can wear and/or the cable may need adjustment. It may just need a cleaning. |
Thanks L.B. Is this cable and cam accessible by removing just the knob or does the whole console have to come off? How about at the ignition switch?
