Free Heated seats? True? True for a 2001?
Dug this up on the internet. Looks interesting.
http://www.iq.dynip.com/~gary/index.cgi/index.cgi?read=357 Quote: -------------------------------------------------- Free Heated Seats Posted by Allan T. Chou on Sunday, 25 October 1998, at 8:48 p.m. I paid the $400.00 for my heated seats, but found later that all Boxsters come with them whether ordered or not. Apparently, the heating element is built in on all boxster seats from the factory. Thaerefore, with two switches and wiring, you can have heated seats for under $100.00. I'm not sure, but I would think the wiring is hidden under the carpeting. Would be a great hack should someone with a non ordered heated seat car go through the drill. If any one in the Northern New Jersey Area would like to try it I would be happy to trace my wiring to compare. Allan ---------------------------------------------------- I'm thinking that this could be true since the couple of heating elements that would be in a seat should cost Porsche like $10. And for that small amount of money, I wouldn't think they would want to keep 2 sets of inventory and manage two different seats for each colour they have. Does anyone know if this is true and had tried this hack? I live in the great White North and this would be very useful now. |
I will ask my service guy today.

I have been around for 6 years and that 1998 message is still being repeated. I do not know anyone who has found the heaters - it is easy to tell because you can see the wires. I have taken the backs off several seats and there were no heaters. This guy could not find them either. http://www.burnham.my-net-space.net/
The heater is part of the foam. Foam for the bottom and top. There is one part number if the foam is heated and another part number if it is not. No reason to have 2 part numbers if the foam is heated in all seats. Notice that the guy said "he found out" the heating element is in all seats. No clue what that means. I found out it is not true by pulling off the seat backs on cars which takes a few seconds. No wires = no heat. This guy came up with a retrofit. But he had to buy the foam that was heated. http://www.dennisvogel.com/boxster/heatedseats/index.html |
Heated seats?
Yes, you can get them FREE right here in Houston, Texas 11 months out of the year! Just drive down and leave your car outside for fifteen minutes with the top up or down. They'll be 150 degrees or so in no time. :D |
Not much use for them in San Jose except I drive with the top down all the time and getting old.
This is my car with heated seats. I can see the wires in the pic. |
