newby looking for some info
 

hi, i'm new to the boxster. I currently drive a high 12 second miata. It has a SAAB turbo running 16psi, and a Link ECU. I was just wondering what are the performance stats on the boxster. I'm looking to buy one, and was just curious. I'm looking at ones on autotrader for about 15000.

Wow, I can read that from 10ft away lol. Well, no stock boxster is going to touch 12's so if you want something faster at the drag strip than your miata then you're looking in the wrong place. Older 2.5L boxsters run about mid-14's and a brand new boxster S will run mid 13's. Everything else in the boxster family is somewhere between those figures. A $15,000 boxster in autotrader will be a 2.5L and in pretty rough shape I'm guessing. Now if you are interested in more than just straight line accleration, then that's a whole different strory.

The look and feel of a Boxster will be very different from you current ride. I would suggest driving several before making the switch (amazing to me how many folks buy a car without doing this!).

Re: Pricing, if you do find a $15K Boxster, you are very likely going to find one that has either tons of miles or has been trashed/salvaged, or both. It IS possible to find a stupid seller but not likely.

Frankly, I would try to figure out a way to spend more money, get a Box with a 2.7L engine and in better condition. This is going to bring you into the lower 20s but will be well worth it in the long run.

Finally, keep in mind that cheap speed ad-ons that you are used to in the Miata world are not available in the Box world. We are talking many thousands to add not a ton of HP to a 2.5L engine. Forget Turbo charging too!

I take it high 12's means quarter mile standing starts ? If so, then I would suggest something with a big thumping V8 in it (a Cayenne Turbo perhaps ;-).
