Holy $#!^, Did my motor go?

First white smoke, now I look and see coolant and oil in my intake... Great... I bought this car 6 months ago. Great way to spend my money. HOpefully the extended warrenty will cover this problem... Whatever it may be.

Someone keeps saying the oil-air something...


Any suggestions?

It could very well be the air-oil separator (AOS). A fancy name for what historically has been called a PCV (positive crankcase vent or valve) on lesser vehicles.

It's a known problem on Boxsters, but once replaced with the updated part it ceases to be a problem.

When they fail many folks think the very impressive plume of smoke means the engine blew... not the case.

I hope this is your car's problem as it is a non-event in the grand scheme of Boxster ownership.

my 01 box blew AOS couple of months ago. BIG surprise!!
White smoke 75 ft up in the air and covered with full width of the street. had oil dripping out of the water drain hole at the base of the air filter box. but no coolant in the intake manifold tube.
No CEL light and the engine idled and ran fine during this event.
hope yours is as simple as failed air oil separator!

BoxsterS21 - try removing the oil filler cap with the engine idling - if it is difficult to remove (ie theres a vacuum holding the cap) there is a good chance that your AOS needs replacing.
