Ignition Lock

Hi Guys,

I have a 2001 Boxster and for the last 2 weeks I noticed that the ignition lock was not accepting the key very smoothly.
Today it got worse and when I turned on the car the key would not snap back into the idle position.

Any thoughts on that? Is this the cylinder failing and can it easily be replaced?

Frank

You need a new switch, about $10, and about an hour to swap it out. Simple DIY covered many times. Do a quick search........

ignition switch

Yup, its the ignition switch; happen to me about 1 month ago. Bought the replacement switch for $35 at an Audi dealer. Took me a couple hours; its a DIY, easier if you are small and flexible (need to replace from under the dash). Most of my difficulty was reinstalling the air duct, had trouble aligning both sides and snapping it back in place. Took alot of patience.

Search this site for ignition switch, youll find very good instructions.
